Install Pointing Hand 1.0.0 (Mouse Theme) on Ubuntu / Linux Mint

Install Pointing Hand 1.0.0 (Mouse Theme) on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus, Ubuntu 15.10 wily werewolf, Ubuntu 15.04 vivid Vervet, ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr (LTS), Linux Mint  17.1, Linux Mint 17.2, Linux Mint 17.3 and other Ubuntu derivative systems

It’s worth pointing out, right from the start, that this tutorial only works for supported Ubuntu systems and other Linux distros might have a different way of handling new cursor themes. The truth is that the Ubuntu devs didn’t actually take the time to concentrate on this feature, mostly because it’s not very important and it’s probably very low on their to-do list.

The ability to change the cursor theme might not seem like much, but it’s lagging a little behind regular themes. Just a few years ago, Ubuntu users could change the system themes straight from the interface, but that particular feature has been phased out.

Also, the possibility to import cursor themes has also been largely ignored and it’s become a little bit of a hassle. It’s not complicated, it just requires a little bit more time than you would expect for this particular task.

Pointing Hand X11 mouse theme. All cursors have the pointinghand image, and they use letters instead of symbols, only the pointinghand cursor changes his color. Available colors: Black and White. Available cursors size: 24, 32, 40, 48, 56 and 64 pixels. I am offering the full serie for right and left handed, with property multi sized.

The pointers were made with Inkscape, and they are fully flat: no blurs, no shadows and no gradients. It is slightly translucent to help you position it quickly and correctly. Cursors are looking well in both dark and clear backgrounds. I will appreciate any comments to improve this cursor theme.

It works fine in Gnome and Unity, and now I’ve added some symlinks to Steam, and everything needed for KDE with Kwin, Cinnamon, Pantheon, Xcfe.

I decided to upload it, and after will go improving it. I would like change a few things so you can expect updates. If you find any bugs, please let me know in comments section.

If you don’t know how to install a mouse theme with multi sized property or to choose a cursor size, go to http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=164300, there you can see the instructions for Gnome2/3.x, Unity, KDE, Cinnamon, Pantheon and Xfce.
