Debian 8.0: Gnome is the default desktop environment
The Debian developers have confirmed Gnome as the default desktop environment for the next stable release.Debian
There are only a few weeks to “freeze“ of Debian 8.0 Jessie, that the freezing of packages from which will then be entered only bug fixes. A few weeks after the fateful “freeze“ already know some important news that we will find in Debian 8.0 Jessie who are the new Kernel 3.16 systemd as boot manager, KDE 4.14. Gnome 3.12 (unconfirmed 3.14), Xfce 4.10. The developer of the universal operating system had proposed to release this new version stable with XFCE desktop environment, the main reason was due to the size of GNOME which did not properly inserted in the CD 1 of Debian, apparently have been solved all the problems relating CD1 to the universal operating system because GNOME has been confirmed as the default desktop environment in the future stable version 8.0 Jessie.
A report is Joey Hess, Debian developer, also indicating that Gnome also provides excellent integration with the new manager starts for systemd.
Gnome is the default desktop environment then in Debian, you will still also available with KDE, XFCE and LXDE directly from CD or DVD (although in my opinion the best installation remains that way Netinstall). Note also that in the official repositories of Debian is also available Mate and Cinnamon as well as various window manager like OpenBox, Fluxbox, etc. i3.
Gnome as the default desktop environment in Debian is the right choice in your opinion? Or better XFCE, lighter and more customizable desktop environment?
