CUPS in Ubuntu
Fifteen years ago came the Common Unix Printing System (CUPS), print server for Unix specific modular, allowing you to better manage and configure the various printers.
CUPS allows our pc to be able to configure both printers connected to our computer, or on our local network, all this is possible thanks to a system spooler / scheduler and a filter that goes to successfully convert the print data. CUPS is currently owned by Apple, the print server will still be released under the GNU whose source code is available directly from the official portal of the project. The developers of the project Common Unix Printing System (CUPS) have announced the release of the new version 2.0 update that brings with it some improvements to make the print server open the most efficient and safe.

CUPS 2.0 improves support with the boot manager systemd, the new version includes support for the validation of the TLS certificate, also introduced several updates on all the man pages for Linux. With the new CUPS 2.0 are dropping support for architectures obsolete as AIX / HP-UX / OSF / 1 note also migrate from OpenSSL to GNU TLS and other small improvements.

CUPS 2.0.0 is now available for download.  The focus of this major release is on performance and security improvements. Changes since 2.0rc1 include:
  • The scheduler did not preserve listener sockets from launchd or systemd after a restart (<rdar://problem/18112848>)
  • Added some USB quirk rules for the libusb-based USB backend (STR #4482)
  • Spanish localization update (STR #4487)
  • Updated documentation for 2.0.0 release.
